Peruvian Root
Growing Roots, One Seed at a Time
Hi, I’m Francesca — born and raised in Lima, Peru.
I used to be a software engineer, living a very different kind of life. But I knew something was missing. I left everything behind — my job, my country, and the comfort of being close to family — and moved to the U.S. to start over.
That’s where I found my soulmate — my husband, my partner in all things, and the person who believed in building something with our hands, from the ground up. Together, we started rescuing cats and funding their care by making small batches of tallow balm and natural soap in our kitchen.
When I left home, I knew I couldn't live without Peruvian food. So in my very first year here, I tried growing my own Aji Amarillo. I didn’t know what I was doing — I had never grown anything from seed before. I’d lived 25 years without ever having a yard. I only had about a dozen seeds that first time, and I shared a few with others in hopes that at least one of us would succeed. My husband was the only one who got the plant to grow all the way to harvest. That little victory meant everything.
Later, we got married — and I kept planting. First for myself, then to share. And people responded. Not just fellow Peruvians, but gardeners across the U.S. who wanted to grow something meaningful, something with story and soul.
That’s how Peruvian Root came to life — not as a business, but as a living bridge between two worlds.
Now, from our little backyard in Ohio, my husband and I are growing a dream: a small Peruvian farm, full of love, heritage, and healing. Every seed I pack, every bag of soil I mix, every plant we ship — it all carries our heart. This is about more than gardening. It’s about keeping culture alive, caring for the earth, and connecting with others who feel the same pull toward something real.
If you’re here, thank you. Whether you came for the seeds, the tallow, or the story — you’re part of this root system now.
With love,
Francesca
